Zerolab is a platform to create tests for electronics for labs and production quickly and easily. A bit like home automation for the lab. Instead of measurement equipment primarily saving measurements or displaying them on a screen, they publish their measurements on the network. Consumers of measurement data can either beforehand or afterwards label the data and specify how it should be used. This cluster of measurement instruments enables completely new tracking of data, and the structure is well suited.
Target Audience:
Companies, international. Small to medium-sized businesses with testing needs, both during development and production.
Business Model:
The parts that make a "dumb" measurement instrument smart will be Open Source. Initially, ZeroLab will focus on integrating ZeroLab drivers for existing hardware.
In its basic version, this enables developers, test managers, and production staff to easily create their own testing tools.
A few revenue streams are possible:
Hosting. Zerolab servers will be hosted in the cloud with a monthly subscription model.
Affiliated kickbacks from hardware vendors. We’ll have a list of “ZeroLab compatible” devices on our website and make deals with those to effectively become a reseller.
On-demand driver development: When the customer needs an unsupported device to connect to Zerolab, we’ll be adding that driver as a paid service.
Extra analytics: AI-generated measurement reports, diagnostic tools based on deep data analysis, and gradually getting users of the open part of ZeroLab to use the paid services that save customers (i.e., data consumers) time.
Configuration management. An intelligent web configuration system directly generates a ready shopping cart with all the parts customers need to carry out a specific test. They can fill in the measurement equipment they already have, and we suggest the missing parts to make their ZeroLab seamless, plug-and-play.
Current Status:
Working on a proof-of-concept.
Challenges:
Uncertain about the scope for production and how easy it will be to sell it. What is the MVP?
Help Sought at Innovation Bay:
Want to hear critical voices, maybe we missed something vital. Also would like to get more people on board.
// Vertikal expansion ….
In the longer term, there are plans to develop our measurement instruments directly optimized for use through ZeroLab where the margins will be higher. By comparing the prices of Chinese and European measurement instruments, it is clear that European suppliers maintain very high margins. This is an area we believe a more niche player can break into. A number of smaller companies have started to challenge this, such as Scalea, Pico Technology, and XXX, but they lack the broad platform and integration between measurement instruments that Zerolab will enable.
