Agile - principles over practices

I’ve found that many teams and organisations are doing agile practices but don’t get much out of it, because we don’t fully understand the principles it’s built on.

This leads to us following procedures that don’t make sense to us, not getting the most out of what agile can give and that we see no or little improvement over time.

This presentation dives into the principles behind agile (and lean) to help us understand how these principles can be turned into practices to support and help us in our search for practices that is suited for us.

Get agile to work in practice - is my motto. This had led me to take interest in all kind of things agile: Kanban, Lean, TDD, Specification by example, cloud and serverless technologies

I have more than 20 years experience of doing agile and helping companies small and large; from insurance companies, to startups primarily in Sweden.

Between 2014 and 2016 I worked for the Salvation Army in Indonesia to help the health services there to become more effective.

Between 2018-2023 I worked as Head of Curriculum at School of Applied Technology where we trained the next generation of agile developers. When I left we had developed 3 full-stack courses, that helped more than 800 people in Stockholm and Amsterdam.

I enjoy writing and speaking and have presented at many international conferences in Europe and Asia. I've written two books; [Kanban in Action](https://www.manning.com/books/kanban-in-action) and [Salvation: The Bungsu Story](https://www.amazon.com/Salvation-hospital-Indonesia-reshape-company/dp/1719485135) both on how to get agile to work in practice

At Scling I get to live what I have preached; getting agile to work in practice. Here I can help our clients to get value from data by supporting them in processes that allow for fast iteration and rapid, frequent experiments. Sclings platform itself is also heavily influenced by lean ideas in its core.
